How do I know if my pet is infected?

Pets are great at hiding their pain and some may show no symptoms at all. Worry less by getting your pet tested regularly and staying on top of their preventative medication. Regular grooming is a simple way to keep an eye out for changes to your pet’s skin or for external parasites such as ticks. Signs that your pet may be infected include:

  • Vomiting
  • Diarrhea
  • Loss of appetite
  • Fatigue
  • Red, flaky skin
  • Constant scratching

What’s the difference between internal and external parasites?

There are two categories of parasites: internal and external. External parasites live on the outside of your pet’s body affecting their skin. Examples of these include ticks, mites, lice and fleas which can put your pet at risk of developing harmful diseases such as Lyme disease. Internal parasites affect the inside of your furry friend’s body which can cause infections and harm their internal organs. This includes common parasites such as hookworm, heartworm, roundworms and tapeworms. Having a parasite prevention plan in place ensures your pet is protected both inside and out.
